The Riva Rinetti is named after a vineyard called Rinetti. The vineyard, facing north and north-west, is located on limestone-clay soil in the municipality of Montecalvo Versiggia at an altitude of about 450 m AMSL.
In this 10 years-old vineyard we are experimenting with a Pinot Noir clone studied for the Oltrepò Pavese wine region. The Rinetti vineyard is an example of the new generation of vineyards designed to offer top quality sparkling wines: the scientific research for the most suited clones, the rootstock selection and the adoption of specific agronomic practices aim at the best expression of the terroir in the grapes and in their vinification.
After the manual harvest in 20-kg plastic boxes, the grapes are gently pressed (grape/must yield: 45-50%). The must ferments in stainless-steel vats.
This cru ages in bottle on the lees for a minimum of 48 months in order to get a rich complexity and to balance the acidity. After the disgorging à la glace, the bottle is topped up with just the base wine of the same vintage.
